Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Enhancing expertise and research capabilities in medical pharmacology and drug discovery science

Since its establishment in 1979, Toho University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has played a pioneering role in clinical pharmacology education. With a shift toward the 6-year Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences education, we now offer a 4-year doctoral course (clinical pharmaceutical sciences) based on the 6-year pharmaceutical sciences program, and a 2-year Master’s course (pharmaceutical sciences) as an independent graduate school. We will train pharmacists with advanced expertise and research capabilities, and researchers focused on drug discovery science.

4-Year PhD Program

With regards to “pharmacy” and “the boundary between pharmacy and medicine”, with the support and guidance of supervisors and professionals, students will obtain the foundational knowledge, advanced expertise, and research capabilities required of pharmacists and researchers to carry out medical and research activities. We welcome not only students who have graduated from the 6-year pharmaceutical sciences, but also working professionals and Master’s course graduates of pharmaceutical sciences.

The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers FOUR research areas from which students can select to pursue their PhD degree:

Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science
Pharmacotherapeutics
Molecular Diagnosis
Pharmaceutical Molecular Design

2-Year Master’s Program

We will cultivate researchers focused on drug discovery science, who will contribute to the advancement of science and technology surrounding medicine. Through lectures, you will acquire the basic knowledge of pharmacology, and by taking exercise courses and research courses based on your own chosen themes, you will acquire specialized pharmaceutical knowledge and skills. After completing the Master’s course, the path to entering the clinical pharmaceutical science doctoral course will be opened.

Students can choose from a range of research areas within Pharmaceutical Sciences covering:

Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, Chemical Pharmacology, Medical Biochemistry, Biomolecular Analysis, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Hygienic Chemistry, Microbial Chemistry, Pharmacology, Public Health, Pharmacokinetics, Biophysics, Clinical Pharmacy
