The antidepressant nefazodone inhibits acetylcholinesterase
—nefazodone could prevent the progression of Alzheimer’s disease—
A research group led by Dr. Keisuke Obara, Dr. Kento Yoshioka, and Professor Yoshio Tanaka of the Department of Chemical Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toho University, found that the antidepressant nefazodone may inhibit acetylcholinesterase within the clinically achievable blood concentration range. This finding suggests that nefazodone could prevent the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The results of this research were published in the journal “Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin” in January 2024.
