Admission Information for International Applicants

GRADUATE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

2-year Master’s program

Applicants must fall into any of the following categories:

*Japanese students should confirm the admissions requirements on the Japanese website.

(1) Those who have graduated from a university.

(2) Those who have been designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

(3) Persons who have been awarded a bachelor’s degree pursuant to the provisions of Article 104, Paragraph 4 of the School Education Law.

(4) Those who have completed a specialized course at a special training college as prescribed in Article 155, Paragraph 1, Item 5 of the Enforcement Regulations of the School Education Law.

(5) Those who have completed 16 years of school education in a foreign country, or those who have been designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as equivalent to this.

(6) Those who have been individually screened for admission eligibility and have been recognized as having academic abilities equivalent or superior to those of university graduates, and have reached the age of 22.

(1) Application Form (Designated form)
The seal of approval of the professor in the research field of the applicant’s choice must be affixed in the prescribed column.

(2) C.V / Resume (Designated form)

(3) Transcript of Academic Record and Certificate of Expected Graduation issued by the head of the school (department) within 3 months prior to the date of application.

(4) One copy of the statement of reasons for application
On A4 paper, write the applicant’s name and a maximum of 1,000 characters in Japanese or 250-350 words in English.

(5) Two face photos
4 cm (length) x 3 cm (width), front view, upper body, no cap, taken within 3 months prior to the date of application.

Please write your name on the back of both photos, and attach one photo to the designated space on the application form.

(6) A copy of the bank transfer receipt for the application fee
All personal information other than the name, amount, and date of transfer must be hidden with a marker.  If payment is made online, print out the ‘Receipt Completion Screen’ on an A4 sheet of paper after payment has been completed, and submit it with your personal details concealed in the same way as above.

(7) Certificate of English Proficiency (applicable persons only)
Original TOEFL-iBT or IELTS score sent to the applicant (within two years of issuance).  Test Date Scores are adopted, not MyBest scores.
Submission requirements: TOEFL-iBT 72 or above, IELTS 5.5 or above.

(8) Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency
Original copy of the certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N1) certification and score sent to the applicant. Limited to those passed within two years of issue.

A high level of Japanese language proficiency is required, as many classes are conducted in Japanese.

(9) Copy of passport
A copy of the page showing nationality, name, gender, date of birth, photo, and status of residence must be submitted.

Those who wish to apply need to submit Pre-consultation Form before submitting an application. After the application form is received, information regarding the examination will be sent to the e-mail address indicated on the application form.

The personal information provided in the application documents will not be used for any purposes other than those related to the entrance examination, entrance procedures, statistical research, and post-admission educational and student support services (student support, tuition collection, etc.).

This insurance is a so-called disaster and accidental insurance for education and research that covers a 2-year study. All international students are also required to join the national health insurance program upon their arrival.

*If you wish to cancel your enrollment after completing the enrollment procedures, you must notify the Office of Graduate Admissions by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, and we will refund the entire amount of the above payment except for the enrollment fee. If you fail to do so by the deadline, the fee will not be returned for any reason.

4-year PhD program

Applicants must fall into any of the following categories:

(1) Those who have graduated from a six-year undergraduate course at a university.

(2) Those who have a master’s degree.

(3) Those who have completed 18 years of school education (the final year of which must be in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or veterinary medicine) in a foreign country, or those who have taken an equivalent course.

(4) Applicants who have been individually screened for admission eligibility and have been recognized as having academic abilities equivalent or superior to those of those who hold a master’s degree or a professional degree, and who have reached the age of 24.

(1) Application Form (Designated form)

(3) Transcript of Academic Record and Certificate of Expected Graduation issued by the head of the school (department) within 3 months prior to the date of application.
If the applicant has a master’s degree (expected) or has completed a master’s degree (expected), submit the transcript of the master’s course and the certificate of completion (expected).
If the transcript indicates that the applicant has graduated or is expected to graduate, the certificate of graduation or expected completion is not required.

Those who wish to apply for any programs in the Graduate School of Medicine should consult in advance with the supervisor of the research field in which they wish to study, and apply for admission after affixing the supervisor’s seal of approval to their application form.
